There are some works of art that transcend the singular and become a collective, of sorts. The Alexander Romance is one of those, a fantastical account written in ancient Greek of Alexander the Great and his crusades against empires and mythological figures. Translated hundreds of hundreds of times, a work so influential to capital-C Culture that it's been elevated to describe an entire genre of literary work.
What then, is this project? Well, when a singular artist has created so many songs that can't be confined to one narrow vision, he might put out a compilation album that bases itself on the life of one of the most culturally significant historical figures.

Perhaps poetically ironic, this album was released to the applause of very few: not because it isn't great music, but because it was intended to be gate kept. Soundcloud hosts thousands of talented artists releasing gems of albums that are heard by no one, and Alexander Romance is no exception. When I first heard its distorted synths and 8bit loops, I knew I wanted to create a visual, conceptual campaign for the album. The artist, currently under the name Bird bones, was kind enough to let me adopt his sounds for my electrized machinations.

Based on this referential-yet-inventive album, I devised a vinyl mockup colored with sharp pangs and bruises, tour posters wheatpasted to the void, and merch made with a wink to online queer subcultures of capital-C Cool, worn by hot men of course. It's a dream of mine to be able to work with tastemaking artists on bringing their creations to life, and I'm happy to have done it here.
