I'm one of the only people in Portland that doesn't partake in recreational use of cannabis, but that doesn't mean I can't create some artwork. This was one of my first clients while I was working in the student-led agency at Portland State. Noblecraft already had an existing product line that prioritized strains in practiced growth conditions, but they wanted a line that could utilize some of their more experimental techniques and strains they hadn't grown before. Enter: Odyssey.

Over the course of 5 months, we presented the client with several different concepts, each with several variants and iterations within. The client favored Odyssey, which wasn't so much about space as it was about transcendentalism and other words. We were mindful of this direction though, as we didn't want to communicate that all Noblecraft customers were space cadets.

Once we had landed a direction, our deliverables included a full brand book, 3 packaging variants for Indica, Sativa, and a Hybrid variety, as well as several different extensions and experiential concepts.

As one of two art directors for this project, I had a ton of fun creating these visual elements. However, I also got to experience different levels of the client/designer relationship: from brainstorming language for the manifesto, to discussing strategy for segmentation, to touring the farm Noblecraft grows their product on, I definitely learned a lot about the life cycle of marketing.
